Day 1 - Home to Colorado Springs

Bruce, Dad and I hit the road at a little after 0700 this morning, uncertain about what the weather held for us and where we would end up staying the night. If the weather was decent, we would end our first day at the Hampton Inn in Colorado Springs. However, we were prepared to end the day's trip when the predicted thunderstorms said so. As it turned out, we spent most of the day under blue skies. The only t-storm we endured was just east of Hays, KS. It rained hard and heavy, but a gas/food stop in Hays was enough time for the sun to re-emerge.

We made it to Colorado Springs with daylight to spare. Tally for the day: 591 miles in a little less than 10 hours.

We started the trip at the Quik Trip at I-70 and K-7 under blue skies:

We stopped at the McDonald's in Hays. Lunch lasted long enough for the storm to blow over!

Here's the view from our hotel room: (I'm talking about the mountains, not the movie theater.)

Tomorrow, we'll start our day with a visit to Outpost Harley-Davidson so I can buy a new clutch lever. There's a story here (obviously) but I'm too tired to go into it now. After I buy my souvenir clutch lever, we'll ride to Salida and Royal Gorge.
